If you have lite acne, you can try baking soda, it sounds crazy but as it is pure sodium bicarbonate it has antifungal, exfoliating and antiseptic properties which can in some cases cure acne. The main benefit to trying baking soda is that it is inexpensive, fragrance-free, alcohol-free, contains no harsh chemicals and is all natural, it won’t work for everyone but for some people it will clear it up, however you should perform an allergy test by applying a little backing soda to your neck and leaving it for a few minutes, if you experience any burning sensations, then immediate wash of the baking soda, if you don’t then it is safe to try baking soda to cure you acne.
How does Baking Soda help acne?
Simple, it dries up the oil in the skin, which helps stop acne, it also speeds up the healing of existing blemishes and minimizing the occurrence of future break outs.
How to Apply Baking Soda for Curing Acne and Cleaning spots:
- Mix the baking soda and water to create a soft paste, it should resemble toothpaste in consistency.
- Rub the paste over your face in a soft circular motion.
- Leave for 2 – 3 minutes
- Rinse with water
The baking soda paste has the potential to unblock pores, clear dead skin and destroy acne-causing bacteria; it is good to use it at least once a week.
How to Exfoliate With Baking Soda:
- Mixing a teaspoon of baking soda with facial cleanser
- Massage this softly into your skin for 5 minutes
- Washed off with lukewarm water.
The Baking Soda Scrub
Some people suggest that, the best baking soda wash is done by mixing baking soda and vinegar, but this combination would only be useful as a scrub, and frankly off the shelf, alpha-hydroxy and beta-hydroxy scrubs are much better as a scrub, but feel free to try it, but remember if you throw the vinegar into the baking soda all at once in a bowl it will fizz all over the table so just be careful, however if you mix them slowly you get an exfoliate scrub which is good for removing loose flakes of dried leaving your looking a little more deeply coloured.
Other Uses of Baking Soda in Acne Skin Care:
The Baking Soda Bath – simply Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to warm bath water, this refreshes the skin.
The Shampoo Trick – Simply add half a teaspoon of baking soda to a bottle of shampoo, this will council out the mousse/volumizer, which helps reducing acne on your forehead.
